Born William Darrell Wallace Jr. on October 8, 1993, in Mobile, Alabama, Wallace’s early life unfolded in Concord, North Carolina.

Raised by his father, Darrell Wallace Sr., who managed an industrial cleaning business, and his mother, Desiree Wallace, a social worker, Bubba Wallace grew up in a mixed-race household, with his father being white and his mother black.

Wallace’s passion for racing ignited at a tender age, and he commenced his professional racing career during his teenage years.

Racing Career And Achievements

Wallace’s racing journey began in the Bandolero and Legends car series. By the age of 12, he had achieved a remarkable feat, winning 35 out of 48 races in the Bandolero Series.

His prowess was further demonstrated in 2008 when he became the youngest driver to secure a victory at Franklin County Speedway in Virginia.

By 2010, Wallace had progressed to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, participating under NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program with Rev Racing.

During this period, he was signed as a development driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, where he secured his first race win at Greenville-Pickens Speedway and was honored with the series’ Rookie of the Year award—the first African American to do so in a NASCAR series.

In 2011, Wallace’s career continued to ascend as he notched victories at prestigious venues including Richmond International Raceway, Columbus Motor Speedway, and Dover International Speedway.

He concluded the season as the second-highest in points, trailing behind Max Gresham. The following year, he made his Xfinity Series debut with Joe Gibbs Racing, driving the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota at Iowa Speedway, where he finished in the ninth position.

His burgeoning career was highlighted by his first career Nationwide Series pole win at Dover International Speedway in September 2012.

Personal Life 

In 2021, Wallace became engaged to Amanda Carter, and they married on December 31, 2022. A devout Christian, Wallace has openly discussed his faith and his ongoing battle with depression, drawing public support for his candor about mental health challenges.

Beyond the racetrack, Wallace is the founder of the Live to Be Different Foundation and has actively engaged in social and political advocacy.

Following the tragic death of George Floyd in May 2020, Wallace emerged as a prominent advocate against racial injustice and police brutality.

His advocacy extended to NASCAR, where he successfully lobbied for a ban on the display of the Confederate battle flag at NASCAR events in June 2020, reinforcing his position as a pivotal figure in the sport’s efforts to address racial issues.
